A preliminary study suggests a link between the use of injections such as Botox  and a reduced frequency of some types of migraine.

Among all participants who responded to treatment, migraine frequency was reduced from an average of 6.8 days per month to an average of 0.7 days per month.

Botox-like injections produce muscle paralysis, but this does not explain how they might prevent migraines, the authors of the study say.  Research indicates that they may affect the way pain signals travel through the nervous system, block pain receptors or reduce inflammation.

What unknown medical benefits could be provided by other cosmetic procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck, gastric band etc?

Katie Price, known by many as Jordan, is a known aficionado of cosmetic surgery.  In a recent book she talked about her five boob jobs, nose job and use of injections such as fillers and botox.

Now she is reported to be encouraging her new husband and cage fighting star Alex Reid to undergo a variety of procedures including work on his nose and ears as well as Botox.  Alex’ ears have been repeatedly bitten and nose broken 20 times in cage fights.

It has been reported that Katie “wants her husband to look his best” for their wedding and that plastic surgery could be beneficial for him in a potential career as a movie star.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is the highest-ranking female in American political history, and it may be that she has had a facelift.

Despite not having an overly tweaked appearance, some have suggested that 69-year old Speaker Nancy Pelosi does look so good for her age that it may be down to surgery, or at least injections.  Rumours surround purely her facial appearance and no claims have been made about the rest of her body, such as liposuction, tummy tuck, or gastric band.

There has been no confirmation of this by Pelosi or her people.

Despite her young age, 22-year old Hilary Duff appears to have had Botox injections in her forehead. Botox is becoming increasingly popular, partly due to the ease and price of these procedures compared too full blown cosmetic surgery such as liposuction, tummy tuck and gastric band.  Rumours about Hilary are sparked by reports that Hilary’s forehead and the space between her brows do not wrinkle, and also has a shiny look that is associated with Botox use.

In addition to Botox, some are also speculating that Hilary is getting lip fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm, as her lips appear to be fuller than previously, although she does not have the trout pout of some of her peers. In the past she has been rumored to have had rhinoplasty and breast enlargement procedures.

The former Strictly Come Dancing presenter Arlene Phillips said in a recent interview that she is considering having more Botox, stating “If something works, go and do it is what I think.”

The 66-year-old star was the centre of an ageism controversy last year, when she was replaced as host of Strictly Come Dancing by the series’ former winner, 30-year-old Alesha Dixon.

This episode has obviously had an effect on Arlene, as she now seems to consider cosmetic surgery in order to hold on to her TV roles, saying “Every time I’m about to do a TV thing, I think: ‘You know, I could just have…’” she told Good Housekeeping.

It is unkown exactly what procedures she has had.  Botox is very likely and possibly liposuction or a face lift.  Any other surgery such as a tummy tuck is unknown.  She has previously commented on find it very easy to put on weight so a gastric band might also be tempting.

Triple Oscar nominated actress Joan Allen may have undergone cosmetic surgery.

Some have suggested that the 53 year old has recently appeared younger and attributed her freshened up appearance to a facelift. However, given the subtle changes, it seems more likely that Joan’s appearance is due to the use of fillers like Radiesse, Sculptra or fat to plump up certain areas of her face, including her cheeks.

Joan’s face does not have the tight, wrinkle free appearance that is synonymous with  plastic surgery, although the smoothness of her forehead could indicate the use of Botox and although a neck lift is a possibility she does not appear to have undergone any other surgery, such as a tummy tuck or gastric band.

It has been revealed that cosmetic surgery is on the rise amongst gay men in the United States is on the rise despite the recession, with some procedures becoming more popular with male patients than women.

The most popular cosmetic surgery procedures include Botox and liposuction, with figures released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) showing liposuction is becoming especially popular among gay men.

Figures for tummy tucks and gastric bands are not thought to be effected by sexual orientation.   In the UK, the increasing trend for men seeking Botox is thought to be related remaining competitive in the workplace, inspired by celebrities such as Simon Cowell and Gordon Ramsay.

Normally Paris Hilton and her sister are always in the news but their mum Kathy rarely gets any media attention.  She is 50-years old and has given birth to 4 children but still looks great.  Could this be due to some plastic surgery.  It doesn’t like like she’s had any ivasive surgery such as tummy tuck or liposuction but looks like she’s had some facial work done such as botox or some fillers.  What do you think?

Helen Mirren is most famous for her role in the film Queen where she played the Queen.  She won an Oscar for her performance and has become a household name ever since.  She said, “I think people should be allowed to do whatever they want to make themselves feel happy”.  Maybe in the future she will have some facial work such as a face lift, eye surgery or botox.  What do you think?
