1000% rise in gastric band surgery for obese Scots.
It is reported by Scotland on Sunday that the number of obese Scots who will require weight loss surgery , namely gastric band surgery, it is envisaged that the number will increase 10 times in the next few years.
It is understood that 300 gastric band surgery are carried out every year at the moment and it is hoped that substantial funding can be forthcoming from the NHS to increase the number of gasric band surgery offerred to 3,000 patients a year.
However, at £11,000 a patient, it is difficult to forecast, especially with the credit crunch, if this substantial increase in spending will actually materialise.
