Boys as young as 10 years old are undergoing breast reduction surgery in the UK, in order to remove ‘moobs’.

Obesity levels are rising worldwide, and children are one of the groups seeing a particularly significant increase.  Some are calling for the use of weight loss surgery such as gastric band in order to avoid health concerns.  Obesity has been linked with an increase in weight related cosmetic surgery such as liposuction, tummy tuck and breast reduction.

A recent study found that children who recognised Fast Food companies from their adverts, even when the branding was removed, were twice as likely to be obese.

Miss Universe 2012 is imminent, and the contest has renewed debate on whether cosmetic surgery should be allowed in pageants or should be considered cheating.

This year’s competition included Canada’s first transgender model, who was initially disqualified for not being born as a woman.  Many beauty contests do not have an official stance on plastic surgery, but do frown upon surgically enhanced entrants.  Many people consider breast reduction, liposuction, tummy tuck and other procedures to be ‘cheating’, likening plastic surgery to the use of drugs in sport.

The number of cosmetic surgery procedures carried out in the US has doubled since the year 2000.

The US is no longer the country with the highest rate of plastic surgery however, as South Korearecently took over the top spot, now boasting the most cosmetic surgery per capita.

Asia and South America are now the major growth markets for cosmetic surgery, with facial surgery such as eyelid and jaw surgery popular in Asia, and breast reduction, tummy tuck and liposuction popular in South America, which also has one of the highest rates of obesity.

South East Asia has the lowest rate of obesity in the world, while the America’s have the highest rate, and the largest number of people who could benefit from gastric band surgery.

As the populations of developing countries in Africa, Asia and South America embrace western diets and lifestyles, rates of obesity and related health conditions are rising, as is demand for weight loss surgery such as gastric band and gastric sleeve, and plastic surgery including tummy tuck and liposuction procedures.

Using smartphones, tablets and laptops could results in sagging jowls and a greater need for cosmetic surgery such as liposuction and facelift procedures, it has been claimed.

It is suggested by one cosmetic surgeon that spending hours bending down to operate electronic devices ‘may shorten the neck muscles and increase the gravitational pull on the jowl area, leading to a drooping jawline.’We are not aware of any evidence to support the claims.

Barry Manilow is the subject of renewed plastic surgery speculation, after a recent appearance outside the BBC studios in London.

Barry has repeatedly been rumoured to have had cosmetic surgery, particularly on his face, which he has previously put down to use of Botox and steroid shots he had been given for hip pain, “They had to keep giving me steroid shots. Actor Josh Hutcherson, star of hit film ‘The Hunger Games’ has revealed the results of plastic surgery to his nose.

Josh said the surgery was intended to fix a broken nose, while on another occasion said it was to correct a deviated septum, explaining ‘I was 90 percent blocked in my right nostril.’ This has led some to claim that he really had the surgery for cosmetic reasons.

Half a billion people, roughly 12 percent of the world’s population, are obese according to the World Health Organization.

Kris Jenner, star of ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians,’ appears to have had some form of plastic surgery in a new clip from the upcoming series of the reality TV show.

Kris sports inflated lips in a new scene from the show, which may or may not be a result of injections or implants.  The 56 year old is also thought to have had a facelift and breast enlargement in the past.

Her daughter Kim Kardashian is constantly the subject of plastic surgery speculation, but she has not been confirmed as having any surgery at all, including butt implants, liposuction or tummy tuck.
