Despite its wealth of plastic surgery enhanced stick thin celebrities, the US is losing its battle with obesity according to a new report called “F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America’s Future 2010” but can use of the gastric band help to change this?

Obesity rose in 28 states last year according to the study.  The deep south is by far the worst affected area of the US, with 10 out of the 11 worst states, Mississippi being the worst with 33.8% of adults beings technically obese (having a bmi higher than 30).  Colarado has the lowest with an obesity level of 19.1%.  Figures may in fact be worse than stated as there is reported to be a certain amount of manipulation of figures happening.

Gastric band surgery helps to bring down weight by reducing appetite and therefore amount of food intake.  A growing number of people are opting to undergo the procedure, which can provide a lifelong solution to obesity.  Former obese patients often go on to seek cosmetic surgery such as tummy tuck, liposuction and breast enlargement.
