As the number of cosmetic surgery procedures such as liposuction, breast enlargement, tummy tuck and gastric band have reduced in recent times, one type of surgery has bucked the trend considerably.  Butt lifts have increased by 24.6% in the past year, and buttock augmentation rose by 37.3% in the same period.

Some have pointed to the proliferation of more curvaceous role models such as Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez as a possible cause for the surge in people seeking such procedures.

Buttock surgery is often sought by people who have lost a lot of weight, and is reportedly most popular among women of south and central American origin.

Tummy Tuck, Stem Cells & The Future Of Cosmetic Surgery,

A new anti-ageing treatment using stem cells harvested from body fat promises an injected alternative to a face lift.

The treatment, which is still in preliminary trials, uses the rejuvenating properties of stem cells, which trigger the generation of new tissue.  By using this technique, a genuinely youthful appearance can be achieved at a cellular level, rather than an imitation of it through surgery.

Dr Mario Russo who is the leading practitioner of this new technique, also believes that its regenerative abilities could become a valuable tool in the reduction of scars.  This could lead to stem cells being used in the aftercare period of traditional plastic surgery such as breast augmentation, tummy tuck, liposuction and face lifts.

Gastric Band, Tummy Tuck, Charlize Theron Plastic Surgery Rumours,

Some are suggesting that actress Charlize Theron may have had cosmetic surgery.  These rumours appear to be based on recent images appearing to show what appears to be a more pointed chin.  It has been suggested in the past that she may have had rhinoplasty.

There has been no comment from Theron or her representative, although Charlize has previously said that she does not mind looking older “We all go through a lot of turmoil and a lot of difficult things that maybe we’d want to forget. But you grow from those things and when you see those moments and those lines, it’s not looking back at devastation. It’s going, ‘I’ve grown from this.’ And so in a way you’ve earned it.”
